Vertical Entertainment has just released the newest trailer for Elevation. Anthony Mackie reunites with director George Nolfi, whom he previously worked with on the films The Banker and The Adjustment Bureau. Mackie is joined by Morena Baccarin of the Deadpool franchise. Scripted by John Glenn (Eagle Eye) and SEAL Team duo Jacob Roman and Kenny Ryan, Elevation is set in a post-apocalyptic Rocky Mountains, where a single father and two women venture from the safety of their homes to face monstrous creatures to save the life of a young boy.

Mackie and Baccarin are joined in the cast by Maddie Hasson (Malignant) and Danny Boyd Jr. (Bruised).

Nolfi, Mackie, and Glenn produced the film with Brad Fuller, Alex Black, Jeremy Kipp Walker, and Joel Viertel. Black, founder of the production company Lyrical Media, provided the financing. Jon Rosenberg and Alex Ginno of Fuller’s company Fuller Media serve as executive producers alongside Natalie Sellers of Lyrical and Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment. Ryan and Roman co-produced.

Vertical Partner Peter Jarowey had this to say about the distribution deal:Elevation brings together a world-class group of seasoned professionals, who have combined the fruits of their craft to deliver a film that is not only thrilling but also delivers a cinematic scope that we seldom see outside of the studio system. Its compelling visual elements provide an elevated feel that sets the film apart from the traditional ‘creature feature.’ We look forward to working with George, Brad, and the team to unveil the film to audiences.“

Nolfi added: “Working with Anthony Mackie, for a third time now, Morena Baccarin, and the rest of our exceptional cast and crew to bring this innovative screenplay to life was a blast. Anthony, Morena, and the rest of the team dove in head first (sometimes literally) as we shot action scenes in some extremely challenging places – from a working ski lift high in the Colorado Rockies, to an active mine under a mile of rock – all to enhance the theatrical experience of the film. We are thrilled to partner with Vertical to put this film in theaters all across the country later this year.“

Elevation is due to hit theaters on November 8.

The creature feature Elevation, which stars Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Morena Baccarin (Deadpool), went into production in the second half of 2022 with director George Nolfi, who previously worked with Mackie on the films The Banker and The Adjustment Bureau, at the helm. The creature feature Elevation, which stars Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and is directed by George Nolfi, who previously worked with Mackie on the films The Banker and The Adjustment Bureau, is already filming in Colorado right now… but don’t expect to see it very soon. In a new report on Deadline, it’s mentioned that Elevation isn’t expected to receive a worldwide release until sometime in 2024. The good news is, the movie has already secured distribution in many territories.

According to Deadline, Mossbank has sold the film to over twenty-five markets. That includes “Signature for the UK, Ireland, Australia and NZ, Metropolitan for France, IDC for Latin America, VVS Films for Canada, Tripictures and DeaPlaneta for Spain, Mis. Label for Scandinavia, The Searchers for Benelux and Seven. One for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Prorom and Kino Swiat have taken Eastern Europe and Poland, Phars bought Middle East, Empire took South Africa, Encore has for Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam, First Run has Korea, Moviecloud acquired Taiwan, Sahamongkol took Thailand, Pioneer for Philippines, Pris for Portugal, Odeon for Greece and Cyprus, BG for Turkey and Top Film for Ukraine, CIS and Baltics.”

Scripted by Kenny Ryan and Jacob Roman, Elevation is described as being a “high-concept, thematically driven action piece set in the Rocky Mountains”. The story centers on

a single father and two women who must venture from the safety of their home to face monstrous creatures in order to save the life of a child.

Nolfi and Mackie are producing the film with Brad Fuller, John Glenn, Alex Black, Jeremy Kipp Walker, and Joel Viertel. Black, founder of the production company Lyrical Media, is providing the financing. Jon Rosenberg and Alex Ginno of Fuller’s company Fuller Media serve as executive producers alongside Natalie Sellers of Lyrical and Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment. Ryan and Roman, who previously worked on the CBS series SEAL Team, are co-producing.

Mackie is joined in the cast by Maddie Hasson (Malignant) and Morena Baccarin (Deadpool).

Mossbank’s Michael Rothstein and Sam Hall provided the following statement: “We’re extremely grateful to have been entrusted with Elevation by Lyrical Media, Brad Fuller and George Nolfi, and we couldn’t be prouder of the response from the international market. It reminds us that there’s substantial appetite and support in the independent space for studio-level filmmaking from world-leading producers, directors, writers and stars. We are extremely grateful to all our international partners on the film for taking this ride with us, and can’t wait to bring Elevation to audiences worldwide in 2024.

While gearing up to reprise the role of his Marvel Cinematic Universe hero Sam Wilson – who has now taken on the mantle of Captain America – in Captain America: New World Order, Anthony Mackie has also taken the opportunity to sign on to star in the post-apocalyptic thriller Elevation. Deadline reports that Mackie will be joined in the cast of Elevation by Maddie Hasson (Malignant) and Morena Baccarin (Deadpool).

George Nolfi, who previously worked with Mackie on the films The Banker and The Adjustment Bureau, will be directing Elevation from a screenplay by Kenny Ryan and Jacob Roman. The project is described as being a “high-concept, thematically driven action piece set in the Rocky Mountains”.

In addition to directing The Adjustment Bureau and The Banker, Nolfi directed Birth of the Dragon and worked on the screenplays for Timeline, Ocean’s Twelve, The Sentinel, The Bourne Ultimatum, and Spectral. He also created the NBC series Allegiance.

There isn’t much information available about Elevation right now, but just the fact that it’s about Mackie, Hasson, and Baccarin battling monstrous creatures is enough to sell me on the idea.

Director Jack Bender has worked on the Stephen King-inspired television shows Mr. Mercedes, Under the Dome, and The Outsider, and he's set to continue digging into the world of King with a film adaptation of the author's 2018 novella Elevation (pick up a copy HERE).

Elevation isn't exactly a horror story, although it does feature the unnerving idea of a person gradually becoming weightless. Here's the description:

Although Scott Carey doesn’t look any different, he’s been steadily losing weight. There are a couple of other odd things, too. He weighs the same in his clothes and out of them, no matter how heavy they are. Scott doesn’t want to be poked and prodded. He mostly just wants someone else to know, and he trusts Doctor Bob Ellis.

In the small town of Castle Rock, the setting of many of King’s most iconic stories, Scott is engaged in a low grade—but escalating—battle with the lesbians next door whose dog regularly drops his business on Scott’s lawn. One of the women is friendly; the other, cold as ice. Both are trying to launch a new restaurant, but the people of Castle Rock want no part of a gay married couple, and the place is in trouble. When Scott finally understands the prejudices they face–including his own—he tries to help. Unlikely alliances, the annual foot race, and the mystery of Scott’s affliction bring out the best in people who have indulged the worst in themselves and others.

When asked about making changes to King's work for the shows he has been directing and/or producer on, Bender told Cinema Blend,

(King) is very generous about that when it works. I've recently adapted a book of his called Elevation, which we're going to make into a film. And I invented some stuff and added, and was nervous because he'd never read anything I've written, only directed and produced. And needless to say I was nervous about it, but he loved it. He's very gracious, and he knows that when we make a TV show, there's going to be stuff added stuff taken away; that's just the way it goes."

Bender went on to say he was drawn to Elevation because

it's a fable, and it's very out of Stephen King's box of horror, et cetera. It's really about how we can all be better people. And it's a wonderful story. It's one of those little gems, and I felt that from when I first read it."

Bender didn't say when he hopes to get Elevation into production, but we'll keep you updated on the project as we learn more about it.

Ever the prolific writer, Stephen King released his new book THE OUTSIDER just last week and today we already have word on King's new book ELEVATION, which will be hitting us later this year on October 30th. Yes, not only do we have a look at the new CASTLE ROCK-set story, but King shared a tasty bite-sized excerpt from the novella with EW, and you can check that out in the link below.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Although Scott Carey doesn’t look any different, he’s been steadily losing weight. There are a couple of other odd things, too. He weighs the same in his clothes and out of them, no matter how heavy they are. Scott doesn’t want to be poked and prodded. He mostly just wants someone else to know, and he trusts Doctor Bob Ellis.

In the small town of Castle Rock … Scott is engaged in a low-grade — but escalating — battle with the lesbians next door whose dog regularly drops his business on Scott’s lawn. One of the women is friendly; the other, cold as ice. Both are trying to launch a new restaurant, but the people of Castle Rock want no part of a gay married couple, and the place is in trouble. When Scott finally understands the prejudices they face — including his own — he tries to help. Unlikely alliances, the annual foot race, and the mystery of Scott’s affliction bring out the best in people who have indulged the worst in themselves and others.

While the new short novella will see King's return to the town of CASTLE ROCK, evidently the tone of the piece isn't horror. In fact, it's being described as "a rebuke to our divisive culture" and "tells a story that’s joyful, uplifting, and tinged with sadness." As you might imagine, I'm by no means turned off from reading a book by Stephen King if it isn't "horror." I love the man's work through and through, and some of his best tales weren't horror, such as STAND BY ME (based on the novella THE BODY) and THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION to name a few.

You can check out an exclusive excerpt from the new novella over on EW right HEREand then pre-order your copy on Amazon HERE.

Just last month we shared the creepy cover art and rundown on Stephen King's upcoming 2018 novel THE OUTSIDER and today we have news that yet another King book is on it's way to our shelves and Kindles this year as well.

The new book is called ELEVATION. It runs a slim 144 pages and will be hitting us on October 30, 2018. You can find the synopsis below and we will make sure to keep on top of this novel and send along any and all news once we hear it.

Until then make sure to hit us up and let us know how excited you are to be getting TWO new Stephen King books (The Outsider and Elevation) in 2018 in the comments below or on social media.

Rundown via Amazon:

The latest from legendary master storyteller Stephen King, a riveting, extraordinarily eerie, and moving story about a man whose mysterious affliction brings a small town together—a timely, upbeat tale about finding common ground despite deep-rooted differences.

From Stephen King, our “most precious renewable resource, like Shakespeare in the malleability of his work” (The Guardian), Elevation is an antidote to our divisive culture, as gloriously joyful (with a twinge of deep sadness) as “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

ELEVATION hits October 30, 2018.
