Original story: When Gamescom happened at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, Amazon MGM Studios and Blur Studio debuted Secret Level, an animated anthology featuring short stories set in the worlds of some of the most popular video games on the planet. The anticipated project hails from the makers of Love, Death + Robots, an anthology series featuring original tales in horror, science-fiction, and fantasy. According to a leaked trailer for Secret Level, the cast includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Hart, and Keanu Reeves, lending severe star power to the stunningly gorgeous collection of short stories based on video games like Mega Man, Concord, Armored Core, Sifu, Warhammer 40,000, and more. We’re still several weeks out from Moana 2‘s Thanksgiving debut, but long-lead tracking puts the film at saying “You’re welcome” to a $100M+ 5-day launch. The projected total for the animated sequel’s Wednesday through Sunday holiday premiere arrives courtesy of Quorum. In contrast, 2016’s Moana set sail with an $82M premiere over five days. By the end of its run, the spirited island musical banked $248.7M in domestic coconuts, with a $643.3M+ worldwide take. Estimates for Moana 2’s Friday through Sunday earnings range from $75M-$82M.

Opening only in theaters on November 27, 2024, Moana 2 reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced. Directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino, Moana 2 features music by Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foaʻi and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.

According to the numbers, Moana 2 is tracking better than Universal’s Wicked Part One ($67M-$74M) and Paramount’s Gladiator II ($42M-$47M). Despite Wicked’s mass appeal and built-in audience, the sympathetic take on The Wizard of Oz‘s Elphaba is only Part One of a two-part presentation. Some moviegoers don’t like it when movies are split into multiple parts, knowing they’ll need to wait to complete the story. Still, Wicked will draw audiences during the holiday; the same could be said for Gladiator II.

Regarding Moana 2, the anticipated sequel will attract female audiences under 25, with the “Frozen crowd” along for the ride. Men aren’t as keen to join Moana and Maui for another sea-faring adventure, but the film isn’t aiming to reel them in. Moana 2‘s bread and butter lies with kids and parents looking to take a break from holiday madness to enjoy a song-and-dance spectacle with lovable characters and positive messaging.

Luca Guadagnino (Challengers, Call Me By Your Name, Bones and All) is in final negotiations to direct an American Psycho movie. Guadagnino’s version, which is set to be a new story interpretation, comes from Lionsgate. Scott Z. Burns will write the adaptation, with plans to take creative license with Bret Easton Ellis’s novel.

Sources close to Luca Guadagnino’s American Psycho project say it’s not a remake and that the studio has been waiting for the perfect filmmaker to provide a fresh take on the story. Guadagnino is a master of presenting audiences with manipulative characters, making him an excellent fit for the American Psycho premise.

Preparations for Edgar Wright’s remake of Stephen King’s The Running Man are moving at full speed as the list of cast members continues to grow with show-stopping additions. Today, The Hollywood Reporter says Lee Pace (The Fall, Halt and Catch Fire, Pushing Daisies) is joining Glen Powell (Anyone But You, Twisters), Josh Brolin (Dune, The Goonies), Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), and Daniel Ezra (All American, A Discovery of Witches) for Paramount’s adaptation of the classic short story by Stephen King.

Last Night in Soho and Baby Driver director Edgar Wright directs The Running Man from a script he co-wrote with Michael Bacall. Production for the dystopian Contest of Champions kicks off early next year in London.

Powell stars as a “desperate man, needing money for his sick daughter, who joins the most popular show, The Running Man, in which teams of killers hunt down contestants. The longer that a contestant survives, the more money that person makes. But as the game show’s producers and killers will find out, this desperate man will break all the rules and expose the show’s dark secrets.” Josh Brolin plays “the antagonist behind the violent reality show.” In contrast, O’Brian plays a contestant in the wicked game. Ezra’s role remains a mystery. However, THR says Lee Pace is “essentially the heavy of The Running Man, playing the brutal chief hunter for the network airing the game shows and tasked by the producer with tracking down Powell’s character.”

Previously, Wright said that the remake of The Running Man would be closer to the original Stephen King novel than the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. “I like the film but I like the book more, and they didn’t really adapt the book,” Wright said. “Even as a teenager when I saw the Schwarzenegger film I was like, ‘Oh, this isn’t like the book at all!’ And I think, ‘Nobody’s [done] that book.’ So when that came up, I was thinking, and Simon Kinberg says, ‘Do you have any interest in The Running Man?’ I said, ‘You know what? I’ve often thought that that book is something crying out to be adapted.’ Now, that doesn’t mean that it’s easy!”

Edgar Wright’s The Running Man enters the theatrical arena on November 21, 2025.

As the artists work tirelessly to bring everything to life, the filmmakers submerge themselves in an ocean of sound to accompany the action and drama.

Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios are starting to feel like Sisyphus as they hit the reset button on the adaptation of Santa Monica Studio’s God of War. According to Deadline, showrunner/executive producer Rafe Judkins and EPs Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have exited the project after completing several scripts for the show’s first season. Jointly, the studios want to move in a different direction. However, other sources tell Deadline Sony and Prime Video were pleased with what the trio produced.

While this is a significant setback, Sony and Amazon MGM Studios remain committed to the God of War TV series. The studios plan to establish a writers’ room to forge new ideas for the ambitious adaptation. Judkins remains committed to his overall deal with Sony and continues to work on other projects linked to the flagship studio.

When Sony announced the God of War TV series, its plot closely followed the events of the hit video game franchise’s last two chapters. In 2022, Sony said the show “follows Kratos, aka the God of War, who, after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard. When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak—his wife’s final wish. Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son and force Kratos to battle new Gods and monsters for the fate of the world.”

Universally beloved by gamers, the God of War series began on Sony’s PlayStation 2 console. Several games belonging to the God of War franchise have been released across multiple consoles, handheld gaming platforms, and PC. Each chapter has set Kratos against new threats and built upon his extensive skill set. In 2018, Sony rebooted God of War and introduced Kratos’ son, Atreus, a Greek and Norse pantheon hybrid. With plenty of mythology to explore, a God of War TV series could result in an expansive (and expensive) fantasy action epic for Amazon.

The latest video game in the God of War franchise, God of War: Ragnarok, won five awards at the 2022 Game Awards, including Best Narrative, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, Best Performance (Christopher Judge as Kratos), Innovation in Accessibility, and Best Action/Adventure Game.

What direction will Sony’s God of War TV series take if it doesn’t adhere to the original pitch? How much money are the studios willing to spend on a show potentially as epic as The Wheel of Time or The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power? Okay, maybe God of War isn’t Lord of the Rings levels of massive, but you understand what I mean. It could be a while until we hear more about this project. I hope they figure it out and present something to look forward to.

The end of an era approaches as Netflix‘s Cobra Kai series prepares to take its final bow. To get fans ready for the show’s staggered Finale, the streamer unleashed a gallery of first-look images featuring the students of Miyagi-Do, Cobra Kai, and others awaiting the results of a contest determining who gains control of the Valley and more.

According to Netflix, Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2 “brings us to the Sekai Taikai, where Miyagi-Do will face new challenges and old enemies as they fight to become world champions — can they stay united as internal rivalries bubble back to the surface?”

Speaking about the conclusion of the show’s final season, Hayden Schlossberg, who co-created Cobra Kai with Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz, tells Netflix’s Tudum that… “the first thing that you’re going to notice is we’re not in the Valley anymore. It’s a totally different environment. The competitive space is different from previous All Valley tournaments. There’s no crowd watching. This is a karate temple that they’re going to, where the only people in attendance are black belts or karate masters.”

It was also announced today that Lewis Tan (Deadpool v. Wolverine, Mortal Kombat), Patrick Luwis (Rebel Moon), and newcomer Rayna Vallandingham have joined the cast. First appearing in Part Two, the three are part of a competing dojo at the Sekai Taikai. Tan plays Sensei Wolf in the final chapters of the series, while Luwis plays Axel Kovacevic, and Vallandingham plays Zara Malik.

Cobra Kai Season 6 Part debuts November 15, with Part 3/The Finale Event arriving in 2025.

Today’s Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2 first-look images feature Lewis Tan in all of his ab-tastic glory, the students of Miyagi-Do preparing for war against Cobra Kai at the Sekai Taikai, friends and family cheering from the sidelines, and enemies coming face-to-face for a final confrontation.

While the staggered release of the final episodes is irksome, it doesn’t detract from the mounting tension for the next episodes. Cobra Kai has punched above its weight from the start to become something remarkable. The show took audiences by storm, with plans to extend the story beyond the core series. We’re excited to discover who wins, loses, and returns to prison. Seriously, John Kreese, what the hell are you doing there? I know you’re out of the country, but c’mon. Also, is that a knife in your hands? Are Kreese and Johnny about to have a knife fight? Oh, Cobra Kai, you crazy!

After airing four show-stopping episodes of The Penguin, Max is teasing the remaining episodes of The Batman spinoff with a mid-season trailer that takes us into the heart of an all-out war between some of Gotham City’s worst criminals. After some startling revelations, the promo finds Oz Cobb and Sofia Falcone at odds, with Sofa vowing to pluck Oz’s feathers and seize control of a broken city. You can cut the tension with a knife as Oz’s world falls to pieces, with loved ones and associates threatened by the Falcone and Maroni families. If I were the Penguin, I’d get the hell out of Dodge, but as we all know, Oz isn’t one to back out of a fight.

Speaking with The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc, ScreenRant asked if fans could expect another season of the hit DC TV show. While nothing is concrete, LeFranc says there are more stories to tell using the Penguin‘s platform.

“Gotham is ripe to tell so many stories, the comics have shown that through decades and decades,” LeFranc told ScreenRant. “I love this version of Gotham too. I love all the characters that we’ve gotten to explore in this world. I think there’s always room for more of that. If the story can be even better, absolutely.”

Max’s mid-season teaser trailer for The Penguin gives me chills. I’ve followed the show since the jump and positively love it. I agree wholeheartedly with Alex Maidy’s 10/10 review and am thrilled to see many others enjoying it. When Max announced The Penguin, I didn’t know what to think. The character had a relatively minor role in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, though Colin Farrell’s transformation into Oz Cobb was undeniably remarkable. The Penguin allows Farrell to spread his wings, and Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone is a revelation. Farrell and Milioti are powerhouses in The Penguin, and I’ve no idea how their confrontation will end.

The Penguin‘s mid-season trailer positions the rest of the season as a roller coaster ride of emotion, altercation, and action. Fans of the series should be extremely excited about what’s to come, and I can’t wait to check it out alongside everyone else.

After finding tremendous success with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, Mattel Films is partnering with Sony Pictures Entertainment and Escape Artists to pull the lever on a live-action View-Master movie inspired by the iconic toy. The device, which displays 3-D pictures inserted onto a rotating disc, gives viewers a window to other worlds, distant locations, animal habitats, famous cartoon landscapes, and anything your imagination can think of.

According to Mattel’s official press release for its View-Master film, View-Master has entertained children and adults since its introduction in 1939. The stereoscopic viewing device has been a popular childhood staple for generations and has taken its fans all over the world with its 3-D image reels, creating worlds of imagination and storytelling for every adventure seeker at heart.

“View-Master has inspired generations to embark on boundless adventures, offering a treasure trove of storytelling possibilities for this film,” said Robbie Brenner, President of Mattel Films. “We’re thrilled to work with Sony Pictures Entertainment and Escape Artists’ Todd Black to bring this Mattel franchise to life. I feel old. I’m sitting here looking at View-Master designs throughout the years, and it’s wild how much the toy has changed since I played with one in the 1980s. I remember National Geographic, Sesame Street, Disney, and Nickelodeon slides. You needed to hold the View-Master up to a light source to enjoy the full benefits, but man, those images looked good. Oh, and that satisfying “click” of the orange lever. Delicious.
