Colman Domingo is getting into the director’s chair for the first time for Scandalous. The movie will come from Miramax and has been fast-tracked to start production. Deadline is reporting that Domingo is planning to start filming after completing season 3 of Euphoria and he’ll be bringing along his co-star Sydney Sweeney along for the film. Sweeney is also on board as producer and will be active in its development like her involvement with Anyone But You. Sweeney is also producing the film alongside Tani Cohen and Bobby Rock, with Jon Levin executive producing. The movie will come from a script written by Matthew Fantaci.

The plot of the drama, per Deadline, is about the clandestine love affair between film star Kim Novak and singer/dancer and film star Sammy Davis Jr. in 1957. Sydney Sweeney will play Novak, and David Jonsson will play Davis Jr. Meanwhile, Sweeney was recently revealed to sport a more muscular frame as behind-the-scenes photos revealed that she’s set to play female boxer Christy Martin in an untitled biopic. David Michod directs the untitled Christy Martin sports biopic he co-wrote with Mirrah Foulkes. The project charts Martin’s rise to become the most iconic boxer of the 1990s. Dubbed the “female Rocky” by producers, the untitled film follows Martin as she makes a name for herself in the squared circle.

On the acting front for Domingo, he is reportedly joining Steven Spielberg’s newest top-secret UFO event movie. Domingo would join a cast that includes Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Colin Firth (Kingsman: The Secret Service), and Eve Hewson (Hedda). As for the project itself, we don’t know much about it, only that it’s said to be a UFO movie based on Spielberg’s own original idea, with David Koepp (Jurassic Park) writing the screenplay. A UFO movie from the man who gave us Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and War of the Worlds is pretty much all I need to know. Bring it on. Universal Pictures has already slated the project for a May 15, 2026 release.

Domingo has been enjoying a hell of a run over the last year. He earned an Academy Award nomination for his role in Rustin and has won praise for his work on Sing Sing and The Color Purple. He’s also playing Joe Jackson in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua which will be released on April 18, 2025.

Baby, he was born to run. Disney will produce and distribute Deliver Me From Nowhere, a movie that chronicles the making of Bruce Springsteen’s iconic 1982 album Nebraska. Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) will write and direct Deliver Me From Nowhere, with Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) cast to star as The Boss himself for the film. The project is based on Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska by Warren Zanes and production is expected to kick off this fall.

The Hollywood Reporter got to speak with Springsteen’s manager, Jon Landau, who was glowing about the casting of White in the lead role. Landau told THR,

Oh my god, he’s just perfect. The casting is great. [Director] Scott [Cooper] said to me at the beginning, he said, ‘We get the right cast, and we’ll tell this story right,’ and he got the right cast.”

Landau is equally giddy about Jeremy Strong, who would be playing Landau in the movie. He joked, “I died and went to heaven. He’s a great guy. We’ve had the chance to know each other, and I’m just dying to see what he does and what I learn from it.” Additionally, he stated that although he and Springsteen aren’t very closely involved with the project, “we’re very pleased at the way they’re going about it, it’s going to be beautiful.”

“It is a once-in-a-lifetime honor to be collaborating with Bruce Springsteen, an inspiring and incomparable artist who represents so much to so many,” said David Greenbaum, president, Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios. “The deep authenticity of his story is in great hands with my friend Scott Cooper whom I am thrilled to be collaborating with once again.“

Taika Waititi and Charles Yu brings us a new reluctant hero in the new action comedy series Interior Chinatown. Hulu has just sent over the trailer, which features Jimmy O. Yang, Ronny Chieng, Chloe Bennet, Lisa Gilroy, Sullivan Jones, Archie Kao, and Diana Lin. The limited series is executive produced by Taika Waititi (who also directed the pilot) and Charles Yu (creator and showrunner). The series premieres with all ten episodes on November 19, 2024.

The official synopsis reads,
“Based on Charles Yu’s award-winning book of the same name, the show follows the story of Willis Wu, a background character trapped in a police procedural called ‘Black & White.’ Relegated to the background, Willis goes through the motions of his on-screen job, waiting tables, dreaming about a world beyond Chinatown and aspiring to be the lead of his own story. When Willis inadvertently becomes a witness to a crime, he begins to unravel a criminal web in Chinatown, while discovering his own family’s buried history and what it feels like to be in the spotlight.”

Series’ creator Charles Yu serves as executive producer, along with Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore for Rideback; Jeff Skoll, Miura Kite and Elsie Choi for Participant; Garrett Basch for Dive; John Lee; and Taika Waititi. The ten-episode limited series is produced by 20th Television.

Jimmy O. Yang can also be heard as one of the voice talents of the new season of the animated Gremlins season, Gremlins: The Wild Batch. Part one has already been made available on Max. Made by Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Animation, Gremlins: The Wild Batch takes place one year after the events of season one and follows Gizmo, Sam, and Elle as they travel from their home in Shanghai to San Francisco, bringing even more magic, mystery and Mogwai mayhem. Hot on the trail of a new brood of evil Mogwai, our heroes journey deep into the American West, coming up against new supernatural creatures and picking up a few mysterious characters along the way.

No matter how hard you try, you can’t break up with your past. Universal Pictures has just released the trailer for Love Hurts.

This Valentine’s Day, Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Loki, The Electric State) rockets into his first major leading man role as an unlikely hero, a seemingly mild-mannered realtor with a dark secret that he is desperate to leave behind. Spoiler alert: He won’t. 

From 87North—producers of the groundbreaking action films Nobody, Violent Night, Bullet Train, Atomic Blonde and The Fall Guy—comes a visceral, high-octane story of wrath and revenge.  

Quan stars as Marvin Gable, a realtor working the Milwaukee suburbs, where ‘For Sale’ signs bloom. Gable receives a crimson envelope from Rose (Oscar winner Ariana DeBose; West Side Story, Argylle), a former partner-in-crime that he had left for dead. She’s not happy.  Now, Marvin is thrust back into a world of ruthless hitmen, filled with double-crosses and open houses turned into deadly warzones. Making his feature film directing debut on Love Hurts is acclaimed veteran stunt coordinator and fight coordinator JoJo Eusebio, whose credits include some of the greatest action films of the past decade including Black Panther, The Avengers, the John Wick films, The Matrix Resurrections, Violent Night, The Fall Guy and Deadpool 2. Eusebio also served as the second-unit director on Deadpool 2, Violent Night and Birds of Prey.

To endure the gladiatorial games of the Colosseum as well as fighting a war, the stars of Gladiator II had to rigorously prepare for the amount of stuntwork that awaited them. Paramount Pictures has released this brand-new look with director Ridley Scott and his stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington. The featurette not only shows the amount of fighting and Colosseum matches that audiences are in store for, but the hard training that Mescal and Pascal endured while filming this epic. As Washington puts it, “Pedro and Paul got their ass beat by the best!”

Here is the plot of Gladiator II, as per Paramount: “From legendary director Ridley Scott, Gladiator II continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome. Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Paul Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people.”

The cast includes Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi, with Connie Nielsen and Denzel Washington. The screenplay was penned by David Scarpa.

While Ridley Scott and the studio are hyping this film up as the biggest movie either have ever been involved with, many skeptics who are fans of the original still view it as unnecessary as the story had a fitting end with Maximus’ story coming to a close. However, Scott is already intent on turning his saga into a trilogy. As he put it, “I’m already playing with the idea of Gladiator 3. No, seriously. The end of Gladiator II evokes that of the Godfather, with Michael Corleone who ends up with a job he didn’t want, and who wonders, ‘And now, Father, what am I doing? ‘The next film will therefore speak of a man who does not want to be where he is.”

Gladiator II is rated R for “strong bloody violence” and is set to hit theaters on November 22, the same day as Wicked.

Yellowstone season 5, part 2, has a premiere date of Sunday, November 10 at 8pm ET/PT. (Internationally, Yellowstone will premiere on Paramount+ in Canada on November 10th, the U.K. on November 11, and in Latin America, Brazil and France later in November.) Although it was originally thought that the series would end with season 5, part 2, especially with the shaky ties the show has with star Kevin Costner, there is still a possibility that the series might continue on with season 6 in addition to the spin-offs that are planned.

Paramount Network has now unveiled the official trailer to the next part of the fifth season of Yellowstone.

TV’s #1 show, produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, Yellowstone chronicles the Dutton family who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect – the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders – an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and America’s first national park.

The series was created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, and they both serve as executive producers alongside Art Linson, Kevin Costner, David C. Glasser, Bob Yari, Stephen Kay, Michael Friedman, Christina Voros and Keith Cox. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

Recently, a featurette was released that revealed how the actors were kept in the dark during the season. The featurette includes cast and crew discussing how “secretive” this final season has been for them. “On one hand, it was a big family reunion coming back, and on the other, it was a new set of challenges,” said director Christina Voros. “There was a lot of security around the script and the narrative. It’s a huge testament to the intrepidness of the crew, because you’ve learned how to do something a certain way for seven years and all of a sudden to have a new set of challenges that come from protecting the story for the sake of the audience.“

Jen Landon, who plays Teeter, added, “We get these redacted scripts. Basically everything is blacked out, except for your lines.” Colby actor Denim Richards said this adds to the “uniqueness” of the final season. “The audience will really see real reactions that were really not rehearsed.“

Deadline reports that, recently, Holland recalled one of his earliest experiences with Robert Downey Jr. on Captain America: Civil War. He explained on the Rich Roll podcast, “When I did my audition, my audition was like eight pages of dialogue. It was a long scene. Typically, an audition will be two pages.” Holland continued, “My scene had been cut down significantly from what I’d done in the audition, to now, a page and a half or maybe even two pages.” He said Downey stepped up to the directors, “We start shooting the scene, and Downey piped up and said, ‘Where’s all the kid’s line gone?’ And the Russos sort of said, ‘Well look, this is already a 140-page script. We can’t spend too much time on this.’ And Downey was the one that was like, ‘No, no, no, you’re going to want to spend some time on this. Let’s shoot the whole thing from the audition. You can always cut it, but you’d want to have it.’ And they used all of it. So, I owe that to him.”

Holland was so touched by the gesture that he stated, “I think that’s really cool, and I’d love to one day do that. If I’d be lucky enough to somehow bring Miles Morales into my Spider-Man universe and into the MCU, I’d love to do for a young kid what Downey did for me.” He would also tease what’s in store for the next Spider-Man entry, “It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago, and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and we at times were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.’ But there’s a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going, but it’s exciting.“

A lot of activity is being revealed with Tom Holland. The MCU Spider-Man star will be making a film with Christopher Nolan, then he’s slated to work on the next Avengers as well as the follow-up to Spider-Man: No Way Home. The production with Nolan is expected to kick off in early 2025, with Universal already slating the film for an IMAX release on July 17, 2026. In addition to directing and writing the film, Nolan will also produce with Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner.

Eva Mendes would start off the new millennium with a breakthrough role alongside Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke in Antoine Fuqua’s Training Day. She would parlay that into a rising career with roles in films like 2 Fast 2 Furious, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Hitch and The Place Beyond the Pines. The latter film is where Ryan Gosling would enter her life and her priorities would eventually shift from her acting career to being a mother to her and Gosling’s family after tying the knot. Mendes has often been asked about unceremonious retirement, where she replies, “I got tired fighting for the good roles…There just was a point where I thought, ‘I’m going to create my own opportunities and become a producer on things and create my own material,’ but it just didn’t feel worth it to me.”

According to Deadline, Mendes explained what would coerce her to come back to acting when she was interviewed by The Sunday Times. Mendes said she would only return to acting if the project was also with her husband, “That’s the one thing I would love to do.” She expounded that leaving the film world was a pretty easy decision for her, “I was never in love with acting. I don’t mean this in a self-deprecating way, but I wasn’t a great actress. I had my moments when I worked with really great people.” She mentioned that she was proudest of the projects she got to do with Gosling — The Place Beyond the Pines and Drunk History Christmas. “He gets something out of me that’s never been accessible before.”

She has considered what she would do if she were to un-retire, but now with a family, she had whittled down her ambitions,  “I have such a short list of what I will do, with four kids. I mean, if it was a fun project. But now I won’t do violence, I don’t want to do sexuality, the list is short.” Mendes would show her support of Gosling’s latest films, especially Barbie. Whenever certain backlash would become vocal online, she responded, “So proud of my man. So much hate when he took on this role. So many people trying to shame him for doing it. Despite all the #NotMyKen ridicule and articles written about him, he created this completely original, hilarious, heartbreaking, now iconic character and took it all the way to Oscars. So beyond proud to be this Ken’s Barbie.”

Movie buffs everywhere look forward to Tarantino‘s upcoming season of his film podcast with his past collaborator Roger Avary. Earlier in August, The Video Archives podcast would post on their social media, inviting fans to send in questions in an analog fashion — by postcard. Their post read, “You may have heard rumor that we’re gearing up for Season Two. On instagram, Gala outlined the perfect way to get your question answered: a postcard!  Want to send one?” Then, the post provided the address to get your questions to Tarantino and Avary. 

Just in time for Halloween, The Video Archives podcast announced the return for season 2 on October 29. The Video Archives podcast debuted in July 2022, with Tarantino and Avary using the namesake Manhattan Beach, California video store they both worked in – and its inventory, which QT purchased after it closed in 1995 – as direct inspiration. In each episode, the boys comb through the extensive library to analyze and critique any movies they damn well feel like. In other words, don’t expect too many themes: you want to learn more about why Tarantino hates Moonraker, you may as well stick around to get the feel on video nasty Delirium!

The Video Archives Podcast no doubt went through a lot of films, hitting over 70 in its first season. While there were some more popular titles that cinephiles know well, like Straw Dogs, Mikey and Nickey and Dressed to Kill, the fellas also introduced many of us to some truly obscure stuff, like drag racing doc American Nitro, the peculiar and dark Baxter (told from the point of view of a dog) and Soviet romance Amphibian Man, which was The Shape of Water before The Shape of Water. Personally, I would place Amphibian Man, Sergio Corbucci’s Sonny and Jed and the aforementioned Delirium as the best discoveries from the first season, although there is still plenty to comb through.

Quentin Tarantino even took a couple of episodes – that is, nearly three hours – to pay homage to Rick Dalton, his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood character who he killed off last year. In his tribute, he covered the career of the fictional character in great detail, something he has talked about expanding on before.

Zoe Saldaña has the incredible fortune to be involved in some of the biggest franchises in movies. She broke through in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot series, then joined the massive production of James Cameron’s Avatar and became part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in James Gunn’s off-beat space adventure films, the Guardians of the Galaxy, which crossed over with the Avengers movies. Saldaña would also get to dabble in some smaller, dramatic films in between the big studio films. This November, she can be seen in the Netflix trip, Emilia Pérez.

Saldaña recently sat down with Variety to promote her upcoming film and addressed the future of some of her biggest roles. While she’s content with passing the role of Gamora along to a newcomer, Saldaña did express a lot of interest in returning for more Star Trek in Abrams’ Kelvin Universe. Not only would she come back for a Star Trek 4, but she would also like to see her character, Uhura, rise through the ranks. “She’s a xenolinguistics master, but I would like her doing something else,” Saldaña says. “I’m curious to see her relationship with Spock (Zachary Quinto) and how that has evolved.”

However, she still professes that before she commits, she’ll have to read a script first, “In the first years when these sequels were becoming a thing in my life, I wouldn’t do anything. I would just live my life and wait. Now I’m learning that there’s so many things I want to do. I’m like ‘Hey, what’s out there?’”

Emilia Pérez is seemingly one of the projects out there that grabbed her attention and the fever dream of a movie is already getting major buzz. The official synopsis reads, “From renegade auteur Jacques Audiard comes Emilia Pérez, an audacious fever dream that defies genres and expectations. Through liberating song and dance and bold visuals, this odyssey follows the journey of four remarkable women in Mexico, each pursuing their own happiness. The fearsome cartel leader Emilia (Karla Sofía Gascón) enlists Rita (Zoe Saldaña), an unappreciated lawyer stuck in a dead-end job, to help fake her death so that Emilia can finally live authentically as her true self. Written and directed by Audiard (Rust and Bone, A Prophet), the double Cannes-winning film also stars Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, and Edgar Ramírez.”
