The Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Blade has had a long, rough ride through the development process, and as of right now it doesn’t even have a director attached (Jeymes Samuel, a.k.a. The Bullitts, who previously directed the Netflix Western The Harder They Fall and the Biblical dramedy The Book of Clarence, was recently rumored for the job, but he said there was no truth to the rumor). So there probably weren’t many Marvel fans who were expecting the movie to stick with its November 7, 2025 release date – and therefore, few will be surprised or disappointed to hear that Blade has indeed been bumped out of 2025. Deadline reports that Disney will be releasing 20th Century Studios’ Predator: Badlands on November 7, 2025 instead of Marvel’s vampire slayer movie.

The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Mashershala Ali in the title role, came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019… but we’ve passed the five year anniversary of that announcement, and there’s still no sign that Blade will be filming any time soon. The closest we’ve gotten is Ali making a vocal cameo as the character at the end of Eternals back in 2021. We recently heard a rumor that Ali is getting “increasingly frustrated” with the long development process on this one. Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre have been cast alongside Ali as the years have gone by, but are no longer involved, as their characters have apparently been written out. Co-star Mia Goth, who is rumored to be playing the villainous Lilith, is still attached – and she has said that she’s fine with the delays, because it shows that Marvel really cares about the project. Two directors, Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange, have dropped out along the way.

As for Predator: Badlands, this one is coming our way from Prey director Dan Trachtenberg, making him the first filmmaker to take the helm of two films in the Predator franchise. Trachtenberg crafted the story, which was then fleshed out into a screenplay by Prey screenwriter Patrick Aison.

According to a casting call, Predator: Badlands has the following synopsis: A groundbreaking film in which one of the two main storylines delves into the intricate bond of two very different sisters, their familial ties are put to the ultimate test as they pursue divergent paths and missions. We’ve previously heard that the story is set sometime in the future.

The casting call was searching for a lead actress who could take on the dual role of twin sisters Thia and Tessa: This casting is for a dual character, and describes both characters. Character identifies as female or non-binary, open ethnicity, mid 20s – mid 40s. Thia has spent most of her life in a laboratory and is now embarking on her first big adventure in the world. She is incredibly smart, witty, enthusiastic, and unflappable. She has an innate disregard for danger, not because she’s fearless, but simply because she’s naive. Strong comedy chops required. // The other sister, Tessa, has a militant intensity when it comes to achieving her family’s goals and mission objectives. She will not let anything get in her way, not even her twin sister.

Super 8‘s Elle Fanning stars in the film, which went into production in New Zealand earlier this year.

What do you think of Predator: Badlands bumping Blade out of its November 2025 release date? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

While taking Blade off of their schedule, Disney revealed that they have scheduled three untitled Marvel movies for release on February 18, 2028; May 5, 2028; and November 10, 2028.

Venom vs. Spider-Man? Venom Spider-Man

Last month, it was reported that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to take the helm of the fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man film now that Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts having moved on to other projects. Around the same time, a rumor emerged that Marvel Studios and Sony have been at odds on what sort of approach should be taken to Spider-Man 4. Marvel wanted to make a “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” movie with the hero teaming up with fellow street-level hero Matt Murdock / Daredevil (played by Charlie Cox) to face off with the villain Wilson Fisk / Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) following the events of the upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. On the other hand, Sony has been pushing to make the movie another high stakes multiversal adventure like Spider-Man: No Way Home, with the multiversal shenanigans this time around involving a crossover between the Spider-Man and Venom franchises, the title characters coming together to face off with a character who’s being introduced in Venom: The Last Dance, which reaches theatres this Friday: the villainous Knull, “an eldritch god of darkness and the creator of the symbiotes.” The rumor stated that Sony is coming out the winner of this argument and Spider-Man 4 will indeed feature Venom and Knull… but while we wait to find out if that’s true, Venom franchise star Tom Hardy has gone ahead and said that he’s “well up for” a Spider-Man crossover.

When The Direct asked him if there’s a crossover in our future, Hardy answered, “Will we ever meet Spider-Man? You know… See, there are always possibilities. But I cannot possibly say anything, because this is the last movie. And yeah, so I would love that.

During an appearance at the New York Comic Con last Friday, Hardy said, “I would love to fight Spider-Man. I would love to fight him now. I’m happy to fight Spider-Man today, 100 percent. I’m well up for it. I would never say never.” As for which Spider-Man actor he wants to share the screen with, Hardy told ComicBook.com, “Tom Holland, without a shadow of a doubt.

Venom: The Last Dance is meant to be the final Venom movie (thus the title), wrapping things up as a trilogy – but that doesn’t mean Hardy is done playing his character(s) from the series. He told IGN, “I’ve loved every moment of Eddie and Venom and I was really fond of them. I’d play them any time, you know, because there’s a special place that exists within me to want to operate those two characters wherever you put them in whatever capacity.

Whatever path Spider-Man 4 is taking, Holland is excited about it. During a recent interview, he confirmed that he has read a draft of the script and it “really lit a fire” in him. He said, “It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and we at times were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.’ But there’s a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going, but it’s exciting.

Will Venom and Knull end up in Spider-Man 4? Venom: The Last Dance director Kelly Marcel has said her movie is “just the beginning” for Knull, so it’s not out of the question. Would you like to see this crossover happen? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

If there’s one thing Tom Holland is known for in the MCU, it’s Spider-Man. But if there’s another, it’s his utter inability not to spoil its movies. Despite some serious gaffes in the PR department, Tom Holland did hold one major secret in regarding the MCU: Robert Downey Jr.’s role as Doctor Doom, one of the biggest surprise casting announcements in recent memory.

Appearing on the Rick Roll podcast (via Variety), Tom Holland said he had a tremendously hard time keeping that particular MCU spoiler to himself. “I’ve been speaking to [Robert Downey Jr.] a lot, especially about him making his [Marvel] return, which is super exciting…That was a tough secret to sit on because I have a reputation for ruining things and I strategically have done no press.” Downey was announced as Doctor Doom this last summer, an incredibly bold move considering we all knew RDJ as Tony Stark/Iron Man for so long. Had he spilled the beans, no doubt we would all have all had an Aunt May moment, screaming our own version of “WTF?!” until we could get ourselves back in order.

As for what Tom Holland is referring to with his MCU spoilers, the kid probably could have taken a few lessons from Peter Parker on how to keep a secret. Seriously, the dude has spoiled plot points in the MCU and the existence of sequels to the point where even his fellow Marvel cast members are on edge during joint interviews that he’ll do it again. (Hey, it would at least take pressure off of Owen Wilson!) With years of this kind of experience to his name, it really is something of a miracle that Downey Jr.’s future wasn’t blown.

Tom Holland spoilers or not, Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU is one of the more intriguing and controversial casting decisions that the studio has ever dropped…Now we’ll just have to wait until 2026 to see if it pays off, as Avengers: Doomsday is set for May 1st of that year. The follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, is set for a May 7th, 2027 release.

Bruce Campbell

When Sam Raimi signed on to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it was pretty much a given that he was going to give his longtime friend and Evil Dead franchise star Bruce Campbell a cameo somewhere in the film, just like he had Campbell appear in each one of the Spider-Man movies he directed. (Campbell was a ring announcer in the first Spider-Man, a theater usher in the second, and a maître d’ in the third). Sure enough, Campbell showed up in the Doctor Strange movie as a character called Pizza Poppa – and in interviews given since then, Campbell has stated that not only his Pizza Poppa a variant of his Spider-Man character(s), but he also has a future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Over a year after the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Campbell told ComicBook.com, “The cameos are like, in the Spider-Man movies — if you know anything about the multiverse, you know now, retroactively, I’m in the multiverse now because of Doctor Strange. I’m not a pizza vendor, okay? That would be a massive mistake to think I’m just a pizza vendor, or an usher, or a ring announcer, or a maître d’. It’s called the multiverse, my friend. So, yes, he is the same character, but we don’t know who he really is. It has not been revealed yet. I just got off the phone with the guys at Marvel, and we’re getting close to finding out.Spider-Man: No Way Home did open portals in the multiverse that allowed the MCU’s Spider-Man (played by Tom Holland) to interact with Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man from the Amazing Spider-Man movies and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man from Raimi’s trilogy – and if Maguire’s Spidey is out there, so are (or so is) the Campbell character(s) he interacted with.

In a new interview with Variety, Campbell added, “I play the Pizza Poppa, but ask yourself: Really? In the Marvel timeline, I’m just a Pizza Poppa? Please don’t kid yourself. My contract is that thick for that movie. You think I’d sign a contract that thick for that simple little throwaway character? What did I do in that movie? I delayed Doctor Strange. I didn’t defeat him, we didn’t fight. I delayed him from what? Did I just save Doctor Strange’s life? The Marvel world really is just starting and, again, I can only comment so much.

Of course, Campbell is just kidding around about all of this, but it would be great to see him go on to play a more substantial role in the MCU somehow. And if Sam Raimi does come back for Doctor Strange 3, as is rumored, chances are good that Campbell will be showing up in that film as well. In the meantime, we’ll get to watch him on the Peacock series Hysteria!

Mahershala Ali, Blade update

UPDATE: Jeymes Samuel has released a statement denying the World of Reel’s Blade report. Samuel wrote, “I don’t know where these rumors start, but I am not in talks to do Blade with Marvel. I love me the Daywalker tho, I cannot wait to watch that joint. Sidebar: When Blade 2 came out I prayed they would make: ‘WESLEY SNIPES/CHRISTOPHER LEE – BLADE III.’ It didn’t happen sadly.

The original article follows:

The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Mashershala Ali in the title role, came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019… but we’ve passed the five year anniversary of that announcement, and we still haven’t seen a new Blade movie. The closest we’ve gotten is Ali making a vocal cameo as the character at the end of Eternals back in 2021. Now, World of Reel has shared a rumor that Blade might finally be on track to production, with a script in place that everyone is satisfied with and a potential new director: Jeymes Samuel, a.k.a. The Bullitts, who previously directed the Netflix Western The Harder They Fall and the Biblical dramedy The Book of Clarence. Samuel has been developing an adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic book Irredeemable for Netflix, but if all goes well, it sounds like Blade could become his next project.

World of Reel reports: “A source tells me Jeymes Samuel met for the Blade directing job and impressed the Marvel brass. … An online rumor, kickstarted because Mahershala Ali followed Jordan Peele’s account on Instagram, had some fans excited by a potential Peele-directed Blade. As far as I’ve been told, Peele was never part of any talks with Marvel to helm Blade. … More good news. It does look as though the latest Blade draft, written by Eric Pearson, might have finally satisfied everyone involved. Pearson is the sixth writer to have taken a crack at the script after Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo, and Nic Pizzolatto. The film was originally set in the 1920s, but will now take place in the present day.

Director Yann Demange was attached to direct Blade for a while, and confirmed last November that the film will be rated R. Demange recently stepped away from the project, but it sounds like the movie will be rated R even without Demange at the helm. He was the second director to sign on for Blade and then drop it, following in the footsteps of Bassam Tariq. Will Samuel be the one to replace him?

We recently heard a rumor that Mahershala Ali is getting “increasingly frustrated” with the long development process on this one.

What do you think of the idea that Jeymes Samuel could be the director of Blade? Have you seen The Harder They Fall and/or The Book of Clarence? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Doctor Strange 2,

Sam Raimi, the director of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy, returned to the superhero world to direct the Doctor Strange sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after the first movie’s director, Scott Derrickson, dropped out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe project over creative disagreements. Ever since the release of that movie, Raimi’s name has come up in rumors for more superhero movies, whether it be Avengers sequels or another Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movie… and while those haven’t panned out, here’s one that might: industry scooper Jeff Sneider reports on his website The InSneider that Raimi is nearing a deal to direct Doctor Strange 3 for Marvel.

Sneider wrote, “I’m told that Raimi is definitely coming back, which is no surprise as he really seemed to enjoy working with Marvel, as opposed to other filmmakers who have struggled to adapt to the studio’s process.

As we reported earlier today, Raimi is planning to direct a horror thriller called Send Help next, and Doctor Strange and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness cast member Rachel McAdams is in talks to star in the film. According to Sneider, production on Send Help “is gearing up to start in January before Raimi and McAdams return to the MCU for Doctor Strange 3.”

Scripted by Loki head writer Michael Waldron, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – read our review HERE, check out a list of Easter eggs HERE – has the following synopsis: In Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

The Doctor Strange movies star Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character, while McAdams takes on the role of surgeon Christine Palmer, Strange’s former girlfriend.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ended with two developments that will need to be addressed in future Doctor Strange stories: one scene showed Strange gaining a third eye, and another showed Strange joining sorceress Clea (played by Charlize Theron) on an adventure into the Dark Dimension to repair an “incursion” he was responsible for. We’ll have to wait and see if these things come up in Avengers: Doomsday (coming in 2026) and/or Avengers: Secret Wars (coming in 2027), or if they’ll be left for Doctor Strange 3.

Jeff Bridges would reprise Iron Man villain for the MCU…but how? https://www.joblo.com/jeff-bridges-iron-man-villain/ https://www.joblo.com/jeff-bridges-iron-man-villain/#respond Thu, 26 Sep 2024 19:25:17 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=797856 Jeff Bridges thinks it would be possible to bring back Obadiah Stane, his Iron Man character who was killed off.

Jeff Bridges’ turn as Obadiah Stane – the former partner of Howard Stark and key villain of 2008’s Iron Manset in motion what it meant for a big screen Marvel villain to be successful. Even 30+ movies and 15+ years on, Stane is a top-tier MCU baddie (and certainly better than Mickey Rourke’s Whiplash). While he was killed off in that initial MCU entry, Jeff Bridges is ready to return to the franchise, even giving a way it could happen.

Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jeff Bridges said that when he originally signed on for Iron Man, the fate of Obadiah Stane was much different. With that, maybe the genre itself could lend to a return. “Well, when I read the script, Obadiah Stane falls in that big vat at the end, and in the script that I read and agreed to do, they pulled my suit out and opened it, and I’m not there. ‘We’re not shooting that scene!’ But who knows? It’s all science fiction. I could maybe pop up again.” In other words, consider that whole Obadiah Stane dying thing just a hiccup in the plan.

It seems unlikely that Jeff Bridges would actually reprise his Iron Man character, although he did champion Robert Downey Jr.’s own return, referring to the controversial decision to cast him as Doctor Doom for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. While we don’t expect that move to open a can of worms as far as having actors turn up as different characters, we could absolutely see Marvel bringing back past villains such as Stane via the multiverse.

Jeff Bridges would land one of Iron Man’s eight Saturn Award nominations, with wins for Best Science Fiction Film, Best Actor (Robert Downey Jr.) and Best Director (Jon Favreau). Bridges himself would lose out to Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Honestly, outside of him being one of the best villains the MCU has offered to date, I think Bridges gives one of the best overall performances in the franchise.

Where would Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane in Iron Man rank in your list of best MCU performances? How about in the list of best villains? Load up the reactor and let us know below!

Ironheart: Anthony Ramos on playing the Marvel character The Hood https://www.joblo.com/ironheart-the-hood/ https://www.joblo.com/ironheart-the-hood/#respond Tue, 17 Sep 2024 14:54:52 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=795736 Anthony Ramos plays the Marvel character The Hood on the Disney+ series Ironheart, which will be streaming in 2025

When the character Riri Williams (played by Dominique Thorne) made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut back in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the idea was that we’d be seeing the character again the following year in her own six-episode Disney+ show Ironheart… but 2023 came and went without Ironheart, and the show still doesn’t have an official premiere date. It is expected to come along sometime in 2025, and a trailer was recently shown at the D23 event. It will be a while before we get to see the show’s characters in action, but during a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, cast member Anthony Ramos (In the Heights, Twisters) took a moment to talk about the character he plays in the series: Parker Robbins, a.k.a. The Hood.

Ramos said, “I saw a trailer at D23. We walked onstage, and they played this new trailer of Ironheart, and it was my first time seeing it. And I’m not gonna lie, just as a fan, I was like, ‘Yo, this is crazy. If this show is half as good as this trailer, we in the mix.’ Dominique Thorne is incredible. She plays this genius, and she creates this new suit out of basically just spare parts. In her genius way, she creates this state-of-the-art, beautiful, high-tech suit. She becomes Ironheart. I get to play this villain, The Hood, and Parker Robbins in the comics, he gets this hood, and it’s too powerful for him. It’s overwhelming, and it starts to damage his body. You can see it on the outside, and you can see how it’s even affecting him on the inside and his personality and how it’s actually, literally, physically and mentally and emotionally breaking him, but it’s giving him so much power that he’s addicted. He’s like, ‘I can’t let it go.’ It becomes this weapon to seek vengeance, and for him, he’s starting off small, and he’s stealing in the comics, and then gradually it grows. It grows and grows and grows, and just like his power, I think, it becomes a little overwhelming for him. But I’m excited. I’m excited for y’all to see what we did with this character and just the art department, and our visual effects team and special effects makeup, too. Jonah [Levy] and his whole team, they were amazing with the tattoos and the scars. They really did a crazy job.

As mentioned, Dominique Thorne stars in Ironheart as Riri Williams, “a genius inventor who creates the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man.” Thorne and Ramos are joined in the cast by Manny Montana, Shakira Barrera, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes, Lyric Ross, Matthew Elam, Anji White, Jim Rash, Harper Anthony, Sonia Denis, Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola, Paul Calderón, and Cree Summer. We’ve also heard that Sacha Baron Cohen was in talks to play Mephisto.

Chinaka Hodge, whose previous credits include Snowpiercer and The Midnight Club, is the head writer on the series. Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes direct the episodes. Ryan Coogler, who was behind the Black Panther movies, is an executive producer on the show.

As for why Ironheart is taking so long to make its way out into the world, that is entirely due to the decision to take more time between the releases of Marvel movies and shows. Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum told Agents of Fandom, “Frankly, in all honesty, there was a mandate to kind of create as much as we could for Disney+ as quickly as we could. And then, there was a shift, and all of a sudden, we have to start spreading our release dates out. So, that really accounts for a lot of the delays.

Are you looking forward to seeing Anthony Ramos play The Hood on Ironheart? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

For several years, Channing Tatum was trying to get a film based on the Marvel Comics character Gambit off the ground at Fox. The project passed through the hands of directors Rupert Wyatt, Doug Liman, and Gore Verbinski, but never made it into production. Then Fox was bought out by Disney, the home of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the Gambit plans were set aside. Tatum said he was traumatized when the project was scrapped: “Once Gambit went away, I was so traumatized… I shut off my Marvel machine. I haven’t been able to see any of the movies. I loved that character. It was just too sad. It was like losing a friend because I was so ready to play him.” So it was nice that Tatum’s friend Ryan Reynolds gave him the chance to finally bring his version of the character to life on screen in Deadpool & Wolverine – and today, Reynolds shared a clip that was shot for the film that leaves the door (or the “Marvel Sparkle Circle” portal) open for Tatum’s Gambit to return in the MCU. Even if you saw Deadpool & Wolverine on the big screen, there’s a chance you didn’t catch this moment, but Reynolds assures us that it is in the movie: “A version of this sequence is in the film, playing on one of the monitors in deep background of the TVA.

Tatum has been open about the fact that he hopes his appearance as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine will allow him to continue playing the character in the MCU. When Variety asked him if it was possible, he said, “I sure hope so. From your mouth to God’s ears. Write it into existence, my friend. Please.” He had also told Marvel that he still wants to make the Gambit movie. “I’ve course I’ve said it. I’ve been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God.

Directed by Shawn Levy from a screenplay that was crafted by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Reynolds, Zeb Wells, and Levy himself, Deadpool & Wolverine has the following synopsis: Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date – Deadpool & Wolverine. A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier… reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to – F–k. Synopses are so f–king stupid. Well, the movie has made over a billion dollars at the box office, so you probably know what it’s about.

Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of the Blade property has been making its way through development hell for the last five years, and if / when the script for that project is ever figured out and the new Blade can go into production, Mahershala Ali will be taking over the title role… but Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds thinks Marvel should go in a different direction with the character. After the spoiler veil was lifted and Reynolds could acknowledge that Wesley Snipes makes an appearance as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine, returning to the role for the first time since his trilogy of Blade films wrapped up twenty years ago, the actor took to social media to call for Marvel to give Snipes’ Blade “a Logan-like send-off.” And he’s not letting his request get brushed aside. Last night, Reynolds again took to social media to push for a new Blade movie starring Wesley Snipes.

This time, Reynolds wrote, “The reaction when Wesley Snipes enters the movie is the most intense thing l’ve heard in a theater. People screaming with uninhibited joy and love is also the sound of a legacy. More Blade please. #DayWalker.” He later went back and edited his post to add a P.S.: “A Logan-style send off, specifically.

Reynolds is stirring up a lot of fan support for the idea of a Blade sequel starring Wesley Snipes… which leaves one to wonder, what does Mahershala Ali think about this campaign? It has been said that he’s getting increasingly frustrated that they can’t get his Blade movie into production, now fans are pushing for an entirely different Blade project that he wouldn’t have the lead role in.

Snipes himself has shown support for the Blade reboot. He recently told Entertainment Weekly, “I shouted (Ali) out, told him he’s got all my blessings and support. I even referenced the fact that some of the challenges they’re facing now with the project, it shouldn’t be accredited to him. It’s not the actor’s fault. There’s a lot more that goes on with pulling this Blade stuff off. You need a lot of secret sauce to do the Blade thing, man. Good luck. You’re my man, though.

Would you like to see Marvel greenlight a Wesley Snipes Blade send-off in place of or in addition to the Mahershala Ali reboot? Share your thoughts on this one by leaving a comment below.
