Venom Spider-Man

Last month, it was reported that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to take the helm of the fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man film now that Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts having moved on to other projects. Around the same time, a rumor emerged that Marvel Studios and Sony have been at odds on what sort of approach should be taken to Spider-Man 4. Marvel wanted to make a “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” movie with the hero teaming up with fellow street-level hero Matt Murdock / Daredevil (played by Charlie Cox) to face off with the villain Wilson Fisk / Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) following the events of the upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. On the other hand, Sony has been pushing to make the movie another high stakes multiversal adventure like Spider-Man: No Way Home, with the multiversal shenanigans this time around involving a crossover between the Spider-Man and Venom franchises, the title characters coming together to face off with a character who’s being introduced in Venom: The Last Dance, which reaches theatres this Friday: the villainous Knull, “an eldritch god of darkness and the creator of the symbiotes.” The rumor stated that Sony is coming out the winner of this argument and Spider-Man 4 will indeed feature Venom and Knull… but while we wait to find out if that’s true, Venom franchise star Tom Hardy has gone ahead and said that he’s “well up for” a Spider-Man crossover.

When The Direct asked him if there’s a crossover in our future, Hardy answered, “Will we ever meet Spider-Man? You know… See, there are always possibilities. But I cannot possibly say anything, because this is the last movie. And yeah, so I would love that.

During an appearance at the New York Comic Con last Friday, Hardy said, “I would love to fight Spider-Man. I would love to fight him now. I’m happy to fight Spider-Man today, 100 percent. I’m well up for it. I would never say never.” As for which Spider-Man actor he wants to share the screen with, Hardy told ComicBook.com, “Tom Holland, without a shadow of a doubt.

Venom: The Last Dance is meant to be the final Venom movie (thus the title), wrapping things up as a trilogy – but that doesn’t mean Hardy is done playing his character(s) from the series. He told IGN, “I’ve loved every moment of Eddie and Venom and I was really fond of them. I’d play them any time, you know, because there’s a special place that exists within me to want to operate those two characters wherever you put them in whatever capacity.

Whatever path Spider-Man 4 is taking, Holland is excited about it. During a recent interview, he confirmed that he has read a draft of the script and it “really lit a fire” in him. He said, “It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and we at times were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.’ But there’s a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going, but it’s exciting.

Will Venom and Knull end up in Spider-Man 4? Venom: The Last Dance director Kelly Marcel has said her movie is “just the beginning” for Knull, so it’s not out of the question. Would you like to see this crossover happen? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Venom: The Last Dance

A third film in the Marvel Comics-inspired Venom franchise made its way through production last year, shutting down for several months along the way due to the Screen Actors Guild strike. Now the film, titled Venom: The Last Dance, is heading for an October 25th theatrical release – but the first batch of viewers had their chance to see the movie last night, and the reactions that are coming out of that screening are quite positive, with several saying that this is the best movie in the Venom trilogy! Some of the reactions can be seen in the X embeds below.

The first Venom was scripted by Jeff Pinker, Scott Rosenberg, and Kelly Marcel. Ruben Fleischer directed that film, which made $856 million. But then Fleischer turned his focus to making Zombieland: Double Tap and Uncharted – so Andy Serkis took over as director on Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Which was written by Kelly Marcel, working from a story she crafted with star Tom Hardy. That sequel earned $506 million at the pandemic era global box office. Serkis said he would be glad to return to the helm for a follow-up – but when Venom 3 actually did come up, he opted to focus on other projects instead. So Venom: The Last Dance marks the feature directorial debut of Kelly Marcel. She also wrote the screenplay, based (again) on a story she crafted with Hardy.

Hardy is reprising the role of Eddie Brock / Venom for this sequel, and he is joined in the cast by Juno Temple (Ted Lasso), Clark Backo (Letterkenny), and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness). Official details on the new characters have not been revealed – but no, Ejiofor is not playing his Doctor Strange character Baron Mordo, since the Venom films are set in a different universe than the Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

Here is the official synopsis from the studio: In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance. The marketing has revealed that Knull, the God of the Symbiotes, shows up in the movie – and Marcel has said this is “just the beginning” for the villain. Since this is meant to be the last Venom movie, that seems to give some credibility to the rumors that Knull will carry on into the next Spider-Man movie.

Here’s a sample of the first reactions:

Venom: The Last Dance has been rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, bloody images and strong language. Are you looking forward to the film? What do you think of the first reactions? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Venom: The Last Dance

A third film in the Marvel Comics-inspired Venom franchise made its way through production last year, shutting down for several months along the way due to the Screen Actors Guild strike. Now the film, titled Venom: The Last Dance, is aiming for an October 25th theatrical release – and with that date just one week away, the Motion Picture Association ratings board has revealed that the film has officially earned a PG-13 rating for intense sequences of violence and action, bloody images and strong language. Star Tom Hardy had previously teased that the movie could end up being rated R, pointing to the success of the Deadpool films as proof that R-rated Marvel adaptations can be successful, but obviously that wasn’t to be. Which makes sense. Although an R rating was considered for the previous movie, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, it also ended up being PG-13 (as was the first movie) – and if you don’t earn an R rating with the Carnage character, why would you earn an R without him?

The first Venom was scripted by Jeff Pinker, Scott Rosenberg, and Kelly Marcel. Ruben Fleischer directed that film, which made $856 million. But then Fleischer turned his focus to making Zombieland: Double Tap and Uncharted – so Andy Serkis took over as director on Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Since this is meant to be the last Venom movie, that almost seems to confirm the rumors that Knull will carry on into the next Spider-Man movie.

The Donovans, Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ray Donovan spinoff

A new show at Paramount Plus which began life as a Ray Donovan spinoff series is in the final stages of securing itself one hell of a cast. Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan are in final negotiations to star in The Associate from director Guy Ritchie. Wowza.

Should the trio sign on the dotted line, Deadline hears that Tom Hardy would star as Harry, the fixer, “a man who is as dangerous as he is handsome.” Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan would also star as the crime family’s matriarch and patriarch.

Previously, The Associate was believed to be a Ray Donovan spin-off called The Donovans, which had the following synopsis:

With the most powerful clients in Europe, The Donovans will see family fortunes and reputations at risk, odd alliances unfold, and betrayal around every corner, and while the family might be London’s most elite fixers today, the nature of their business means there is no guarantee what’s in store tomorrow.” Guy Ritchie will was to direct The Donovans and executive produce alongside series writer Ronan Bennett.

The original Ray Donovan series starred Liev Schreiber as the title character, a professional fixer who arranged bribes, payoffs, threats, and other illegal activities for the benefit of his powerful clients. It aired for seven seasons on Showtime before it was cancelled without warning, but a feature-length film was released in 2022, which concluded the story.

Bennett spoke about the Ray Donovan spinoff earlier this year. “We’re going to deliver a show which provides massive thrills, entertainment and a huge rush of adrenaline for audiences around the world,” Bennet said. “At the same time, I’m totally focused on exploring real characters, in body and in soul, and I’m committed to writing stories with deep dramatic impact. We’re going to get under the skin of the criminal underworld, in a way which will show you the bone-deep truths of how they live and how it sometimes will – inevitably – impact on our own lives.” With Hardy, Mirren, and Brosnan onboard (or just about), I think people are going to be very excited about this one.

What do you think of this casting for The Associate?

Spider-Man 4, Tom Holland

Last week, it was reported that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to take the helm of the fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man film now that Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts having moved on to other projects. Also last week, the final trailer for Sony’s Marvel-inspired film Venom: The Last Dance dropped online, revealing that the movie features the villainous Knull, “an eldritch god of darkness and the creator of the symbiotes.” Now, The Cosmic Circus has shared the RUMOR that, while Venom: The Last Dance is meant to be the last entry in the Venom franchise, leaving it as a trilogy, that movie might not be the last time we see Tom Hardy play Eddie Brock and his symbiote pal Venom, nor would it be the last time we see Knull, as they could both be showing up in Spider-Man 4!

According to The Cosmic Circus, Marvel Studios and Sony have been at odds on what sort of approach should be taken to Spider-Man 4. While Spidey and DD worked together to bring down Kingpin, they might also encounter enemies like the crime syndicate the Maggia, the super-powered gangster Mister Negative, scientist Spencer Smythe (creator of the Spider-Slayers robots), and/or Scorpion and Prowler, characters who were set up in Spider-Man: Homecoming with the appearance of their alter egos, played by Michael Mando and Donald Glover. On the other hand, Sony has been pushing to make the movie another high stakes multiversal adventure like Spider-Man: No Way Home… and from what The Cosmic Circus has heard, Sony might be the winner in this argument. The street-level Daredevil team-up might be set aside in favor of a multiversal Venom crossover.

Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus reports, “Recently, I heard that the upcoming Spider-Man film might pit Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Tom Hardy’s Venom together, with Venom: The Last Dance setting up the interaction. By the end of Venom: The Last Dance, we may see Eddie Brock cross over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with some sources indicating that the recent reshoots in NYC for Venom: The Last Dance has to do with that, but that remains unconfirmed for now. Not only that, but I’m hearing that the potential villain for this film would be Knull, who is seeking to enshroud the entire multiverse in his darkness following its discovery. It’s important to note that the Venom symbiote is currently in two different universes, the Sony-Verse and the MCU. This link may spark Knull to seek out Venom in 616 and be on a mission to engulf the multiverse in darkness. … Knull has some interesting origins deeply rooted within the Multiverse, so the idea could be plausible. Who knows? Maybe Knull lost his Necrosword in an incursion, and it slipped into 616 while he hid in the middle of two multiverses.

As Perez mentions, Knull has history (in the comics) with the Necrosword, which was wielded by Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder. In fact, “In the comics, All-Black the Necrosword was the first symbiote. It was manifested from the shadow of the evil deity Knull and tempered inside the head of a Celestial now known as Knowhere.” Knowhere being a location that was seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. The Venom symbiote is also split between the universe the Venom films take place in and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as a piece of the symbiote was left behind when Venom briefly visited the MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home. That was obviously setting up story possibilities for the future, and it looks like Sony might be following up on it sooner than Marvel Studios expected to.

What do you think of these Spider-Man 4 rumors? Would you rather see a movie where Spider-Man and Daredevil team up to take down Kingpin and other street-level threats, or a movie where Spider-Man and Venom team up to save the multiverse from Knull? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Things are tough all over when you’re Eddie Brock. Sure, he’s got a powerful symbiote writhing beneath his quirky exterior, but I don’t see Venom doing anything to help pay the bills, do you? Maybe that’s why Eddie pays a visit to UFC CEO Dana White in a new promo for Sony and Marvel’s Venom: The Last Dance.

Before the threequel‘s October 25 theatrical release, Venom: The Last Dance continues to target its crucial demographic by getting known UFC personalities to help promote the upcoming film. In today’s Venom: The Last Dance promo, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) hits UFC boss Dana White up for money amid a heated phone call. White, already frustrated, tells Eddie to hit the bricks. Eddie wants to walk away from the impromptu meeting with some cash, but he says he’ll fight anyone to earn the scratch. After getting denied and sent packing, Eddie bumps into American mixed martial artist Sean O’Malley and wrestles him to the ground. When White finds O’Malley tussling with Brock in the hallway, White throws a wad of cash to the floor, hoping it’s enough to send Brock on his way.

Deadline has revealed that Tom Hardy and Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be working with True Detective and No Time to Die director Cary Fukunaga on the film adaptation of Blood on Snow. The movie is based on the crime thriller novel by author Jo Nesbø. Nesbø will also be penning the script for his own adaptation with revisions done by Ben Power. The logline involves the plot taking place in 1970s Oslo, where two rival gang leaders—Hoffman and the Fisherman (Hardy) —vie for control.

Hardy and Dean Baker will produce the movie under their Hardy Son & Baker company alongside producers Fukunaga, Nesbø, Niclas Salomonsson, and Hayden Lautenbach. Both Hardy and Taylor-Johnson can be seen this later year in Sony’s Spider-verse movies Venom: The Last Dance and Kraven the Hunter.

The synopsis for the story reads,
“Hoffman’s trusted hitman, Olav (Johnson), is a cold, efficient killer, perfect for the job. But beneath his ruthless exterior lies an unexpected intelligence and an unwavering moral code shaped by a complicated childhood…When Hoffman orders his own wife to be murdered, Olav’s principles clash with his loyalties. Meanwhile, Netflix is also adapting one of Nesbø’s other novels for the series, Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole, which will star Tobias Santelmann, Joel Kinnaman and Pia Tjelta. The mystery’s plot is led by “famed anti-hero detective Harry Hole. Underneath the surface, this series is a nuanced character drama about two police officers — and supposed colleagues — operating on opposite sides of the law. Throughout the first season, Harry goes head-to-head with his long-time adversary and corrupt detective, Tom Waaler. Harry is a brilliant but tormented homicide detective who struggles with his demons. As the two navigate the blurred ethical lines of the criminal justice system, Harry must do all he can to catch a serial killer and bring Waaler to justice before it is too late.”

In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim.
