Beef, season 2, Netflix, Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan

Netflix confirmed today that Beef season 2 is officially moving forward. The new season of the critically acclaimed anthology series will star Oscar Isaac (Scenes From a Marriage), Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman), Charles Melton (May December), and Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus).

Here’s the logline for Beef season 2: “A young couple witnesses an alarming fight between their boss and his wife, triggering chess moves of favors and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its Korean billionaire owner.” The season will consist of eight 30-minute episodes. Lee Sung Jin returns to serve as creator, showrunner, and executive producer. Steven Yeun, Ali Wong, and Jake Schreier also executive produce.

The first season of Beef followed “the aftermath of a road rage incident between two strangers. Danny Cho (Steven Yeun), a failing contractor with a chip on his shoulder, goes head-to-head with Amy Lau (Ali Wong), a self-made entrepreneur with a picturesque life. The increasing stakes of their feud unravel their lives and relationships in this darkly comedic and deeply moving series.” The series has been picking up plenty of awards over the last few months, including eight wins at the Emmy Awards last month, including Outstand Limited or Anthology Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Yeun, and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Wong.

Our own Alex Maidy was one of those who loved the first season of Beef. “I can think of a few series that can compare with the amount of funny and tragedy in Beef while presenting two equally stellar performances from the lead actors,” Maidy wrote. “Steven Yeun and Ali Wong had already proven themselves talented, but Lee Sung Jin’s Beef elevates them to a new level. Beef is an incredibly engrossing series from the very first scene and is sure to have everyone talking when it premieres on Netflix. Beef is not the series I was expecting it to be based on the trailer, but it is so much better than I was hoping for.” You can check out the rest of Maidy’s review right here.

What do you think of the new cast for Beef season 2?

Stranger Things

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things (which is also the last season of the show) finally went into production at the start of the year and is now deep into its twelve month shooting schedule… and during an appearance at the Happy Sad Confused podcast’s 10th anniversary celebration, cast member David Harbour said the series finale will be worth the wait, because it’s the best episode they’ve ever done.

Stranger Things has the following synopsis: A love letter to the ‘80s classic genre films that captivated a generation, Stranger Things is a thrilling drama set in the seemingly normal Midwestern town of Hawkins, Indiana. After a boy vanishes into thin air, his close-knit group of friends and family search for answers and are pulled into a high-stakes and deadly series of events. Beneath the surface of their ordinary town lurks an extraordinary supernatural mystery, along with top-secret government experiments and a dangerous gateway that connects our world to a powerful yet sinister realm. Friendships will be tested and lives will be altered as what they discover will change Hawkins and possibly the world — forever.

Harbour told Happy Sad Confused host Josh Horowitz and the people in the audience that he has very strong opinions about the show that may not match the opinions of a fan. Since he works on the show and sees “the nuts and bolts,” he’ll get very mad at what he thinks is a bad episode or if there’s a season he didn’t like. He said (with thanks to People for the transcription), “I can be very critical of this show,” but with the series finale, “They land the plane, and it is the best episode they’ve ever done. The end of this episode when we were reading it – just us reading it – about halfway through, people started crying. Then about the last 20 minutes, it was just uncontrollably crying, waves of different people. Noah Schnapp being my favorite. I think part of that also is the fact that these kids, it was their childhood. Like, they started the show when they were 11 and 12, and here we are reading [the finale]. It’s 10 years later, and we examine that idea, and it’s so well done and so beautiful. It’s such a great episode, and it’s such a great season. You guys will love it.

Here’s the list of the cast members and the characters they played in season 4: Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Joe Keery (Steve Harrington), Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley), Priah Ferguson (Erica Sinclair), Brett Gelman (Murray), Cara Buono (Karen Wheeler), Matthew Modine (Dr. Brenner), Paul Reiser (Dr. Owens), Jamie Campbell Bower (Peter Ballard), Joseph Quinn (Eddie Munson), Eduardo Franco (Argyle), Sherman Augustus (Lt. Colonel Sullivan), Mason Dye (Jason Carver), Nikola Djuricko (Yuri), Tom Wlaschiha (Dmitri), Myles Truitt (Patrick), Regina Ting Chen (Ms. Kelly), Grace Van Dien (Chrissy), Logan Riley Bruner (Fred Benson), Logan Allen (Jake), Elodie Grace Orkin (Angela), John Reynolds (Officer Callahan), Rob Morgan (Chief Powell), Amybeth McNulty (Vickie), and Freddy Krueger himself Robert Englund (Victor Creel).

Stranger Things is produced by Monkey Massacre Productions and 21 Laps Entertainment. Series creators The Duffer Brothers serve as executive producers alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps Entertainment, Iain Paterson, and Curtis Gwinn.

10 Cloverfield Lane and Prey director Dan Trachtenberg directed an episode of the final season before heading off to make the new Predator movie Badlands, starring Elle Fanning. The Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont also ended an 11 year break from directing to take the helm of an episode. New to the cast for Stranger Things season 5 are Linda Hamilton (The Terminator), Nell Fisher (Evil Dead Rise), newcomer Jake Connelly, and Alex Breaux (Joe Pickett).

Netflix Sarandos

You might think you’re a Netflix junkie just because you’ll binge Love Is Blind for an entire Sunday, but nobody is a bigger fan of the steamer than CEO Ted Sarandos. And who can blame him? Since coming on board and taking over the position, Sarandos has helped Netflix grow into a behemoth within the movie and TV industries, now with a major investment in live sports. While there is constant content being pushed on the streaming service, what role does it truly have for the filmmakers?

Ted Sarandos recently defended Netflix’s insistence on sticking with their model, which is essentially shunning theatrical releases as much as possible. As per Deadline, Sarandos stated, “We believe that not making them wait for months to watch the movie that everyone’s talking about adds that value. So what we do for filmmakers is, we…bring them the biggest audience in the world for their films, and then we help them make the best films of their life.” He added, “I’m just going to reiterate, we are in the subscriptions streaming business, and you can see our results. It’s a pretty good business and it appeals to a very large segment of consumers and fans.” We can all admit that it’s just plain easier to press play on the remote than it is to go through the so-called hassle of going to the movies. But is Netflix really encouraging directors to produce their best work or is it more about generating content? Judging by the fact that Sarandos said the viewer numbers comes before the film quality itself, well…

So, what are these “consumers and fans” contributing to the filmmakers? Sarandos added, “Our top 10 films that premiere on Netflix all have over 100 million views, among the most watched films in the world. It’s our desire to connect keep adding value to our consumers for their subscription dollar.” This is a stance that is often argued in favor of subscription services, although there is a false equivalency at play, as Sarandos would go on to suggest that any movie that gets 100 million views is akin to making $1 billion at the box office (going off of average movie ticket prices).

As far as actual accolades, Sarandos did point out that Netflix has released nine Best Picture nominees (positioning it between RKO and Orion), although considering they have produced over 4,000 original movies in less than a decade since their first, we’re not so sure how much backpatting needs to be done…Historically speaking, only Focus Features has more Best Picture contenders without a win.

What do you make of Ted Sarandos’ comments regarding Netflix? We’d love to hear your thoughts below.

Anthony and Joe Russo, the Russo Brothers, have directed some of the biggest movies of all time, with their film Avengers: Endgame coming in second place just behind James Cameron’s Avatar… but that hasn’t made it any easier to get their sci-fi adventure film The Electric State out into the world. The project was first announced back in 2017 and experienced multiple ups, downs, and behind-the-scenes shake-ups on its way to production, with filming beginning in 2022 and wrapping in early 2023. Reshoots followed in 2024. Now The Electric State is finally be ready to make its way out into the world, so we figured it was time to put together a list of Everything We Know About The Electric State:

The Electric State

SOURCE MATERIAL

The story of this film begins in July of 2017, when Free League launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a new narrative artbook from acclaimed artist and author Simon Stålenhag – a book called The Electric State. Through a Facebook post, this book caught the attention of screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who have worked with the Russo brothers on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and The Gray Man. McFeely is continuing the collaboration on the upcoming films Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. And they weren’t the only ones who became interested in it. At least four studios and numerous producers and directors were pursuing the adaptation rights, kicking off “a heated bidding war” that the Russo brothers ended up winning. In December of 2017, it was announced that Russos would be producing a film adaptation of The Electric State, with the script being written by Markus and McFeely.

Stålenhag’s book had the following description: In late 1997, a runaway teenager and her yellow toy robot travel west through a strange USA, where the ruins of gigantic battle drones litter the countryside heaped together with the discarded trash of a high tech consumerist society in decline. As their car approaches the edge of the continent, the world outside the window seems to be unraveling ever faster as if somewhere beyond the horizon, the hollow core of civilization has finally caved in.

The film also has an alternative 1990s setting, where AI has existed since the ’50s. A war broke out when the robots gained sentience and demanded equal rights. The film picks up 5 years after the war. The Russos have admitted that the book was so massive, they had to streamline the story. They did try to bring the art of the book into the look of the film, while basing it on the world Stålenhag had created, much like the Fallout TV series is set in the world of the video games but isn’t a direct adaptation. They have also made it a tribute to the ’90s, with a bunch of references to things from the era.

The Electric State

Angela Russo-Otstot, the Creative Chief for the Russo brothers’ production company AGBO (and she also happens to be their sister), told The Hollywood Reporter that the film is “a really interesting exploration of a world where service robots live alongside humans. Within their time performing specific services for humans, the robots start to realize that they may want something more than the purpose they [were made] for, and the humans begin to fear this. So, eventually, a conflict plays out. There’s a war between the humans and the robots, and the humans leverage technology to win, and they take all of the robots and banish them into an exclusion zone in the middle of a desert wasteland in the center of the U.S. But it’s a global conflict as well. So there are other stories and narratives that can play out in different countries around the world, but we witness the U.S. story in this film.” The writers are said to have “built out a really rich mythology. There was an existing mythology in the book, but they expanded upon it.

Russo-Otstot also mentioned that the robots “have a real nostalgia to them.”

Russo brothers film

DIRECTORS

When the Russos first secured the rights to Stålenhag’s book, they were too busy working on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame to direct the film themselves, so they tapped Andy Muschietti, who had just had massive success with his first It movie, to take the helm. But Muschietti had to make It: Chapter Two first… and by the time he was finished with that Stephen King adaptation, he had been offered the chance to direct The Flash for Warner Bros. and DC. So while he focused on making a superhero movie of his own, the Russos decided they would direct The Electric State after all. They just had to get the action thriller The Gray Man made for Netflix first. This is why it took five years for The Electric State to start filming: all of the directors that have been attached to it were too busy to make it.

In addition to directing the film, the Russos produced it with Mike Larocca, Chris Castaldi, and Patrick Newall. Markus and McFeely serve as executive producers with Russo-Otstot, Jake Aust, Geoff Haley, and Jeff Ford.

The Russos have said that they aimed to make the movie in a very Robert Zemeckis style, which is why they got Alan Silvestri to make the score unique to the film like his score for Back to the Future. (Which they accurately describe as “the perfect film.”)

Everything We Know About The Electric State

CAST

Mille Bobby Brown of Stranger Things signed on to star in the film at the end of 2020, taking on the role of the teenager mentioned in the book description. She’s said to be “a young woman traveling across the country after a civil war between humanity and the robots that once served them spirals out of control. While searching for her missing brother, Brown’s character meets a mysterious smuggler.” That smuggler is played by Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy). Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) plays an antagonist called the Marshall, who operates a robotic drone remotely and is tasked with hunting down the robot traveling with Brown’s character on her quest. Ke Huy Quan (The Goonies) plays a doctor Brown’s character is desperate to find. Quan’s Everything Everywhere All At Once co-star Michelle Yeoh was once attached to play the character, but had to drop out due to scheduling issues.

Ke Huy Quan

Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade) provide the voices for robot characters. Mackie’s robot is a sidekick to the smuggler played by Pratt, while Thornton’s robot is a key figure in the civil war. Stanley Tucci (The Devil Wears Prada), Brian Cox (X-Men 2), Martin Klebba (the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise), Woody Norman (C’mon C’mon), Jenny Slate (It Ends with Us), and Jason Alexander (Seinfeld) are also in the cast. Woody Harrelson (Zombieland) plays a robot that was inspired by Mr. Peanut. Russo-Otstot said, “I remember when we had to approach Hormel to ask permission to do this. We were like: ‘It has to be Mr. Peanut. We have to make this work.’ And fortunately, it did work out.

Pratt has said that he based his character on a neighbor that he had when he was growing up. This guy, who was older and looked like David Lee Roth, was one of those high school dudes who liked to take the younger kids out and get them in trouble. Pratt has also said that he’s a fan of the graphic novel. He felt The Electric State was more unique than other comic adaptations and that it’s something that may not happen again, considering the novel is so massive and complex, so it could be his “last opportunity to be in a big movie like this.” He was planning to take a break, but went against that when he read the script and it moved him to tears.

Brown took the project because she admired the Russos and actually had the chance to visit them on the set of Avengers: Endgame. While working on the film, she endeavored to make her character as close to Drew Barrymore as possible.

Everything We Know About The Electric State

RELEASE

The Electric State was set up at Universal in 2020, by which time Muschietti had stepped back into an executive producer role while the Russos took the helm. The plan was for the film to get a theatrical release, but then Universal passed it over to Netflix, where the project was overseen by Nick Nesbitt. So, while it may end up getting some theatrical play, this is going to primarily be a streaming release. The film is expected to start streaming on Netflix on March 14th. Here’s the teaser trailer:

In the build-up to the release, the Motion Picture Association ratings board has revealed that they’ve given the film a PG-13 rating for sci-fi violence/action, language and some thematic material.

And that’s everything we know about The Electric State at this time. Are you looking forward to this film? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Stranger Things Elle Graham

The character of Jim Hopper on the hit Netflix series Stranger Things has a tragic history, having lost a young daughter named Sara to cancer – an illness he blames on the fact that he served in the Chemical Corps during the Vietnam War and worked with Agent Orange. Sara was glimpsed in flashbacks in the season 1 finale, where she was played by child actress Elle Graham. The fifth and final season of Stranger Things is currently in production, and Sara will be making another appearance in this last batch of episodes – but that Stranger Things season 1 finale was eight years ago, so Graham, who is now 15 years old, has aged out of the role. That’s why Carmen Cuba Casting has sent out a casting call letting us know that Stranger Things is looking for a new, US-based actress who resembles Graham and can play Sara in Stranger Things season 5. Here’s the casting call:

The trailer for The Electric State has finally dropped. Additionally, the Russo brothers and their stars, Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, have made an appearance at this year’s New York Comic Con to talk about their upcoming Netflix sci-fi film. The story of this film begins in July of 2017, when Free League launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a new narrative artbook from acclaimed artist and author Simon Stålenhag – a book called The Electric State.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that while Chris Pratt spoke about his experience on the movie during the film’s panel, the story moved him so much that he rescheduled his plan to take time off so he could reunite with his Infinity War and Endgame directors for this project. Pratt explained, “It’s not the kind of thing that typically gets made to be a blockbuster-style movie like this. It’s so original, it’s a huge swing. I thought that these types of movies might be my last opportunity to be in a big movie like this. I have to look at every opportunity like that. And I did. It’s just such a great story. I was moved to tears reading.”

Anthony Russo would talk about the challenges of adapting the grand graphic novel into a two-hour movie, “We just looked at the images, and the story that he unfolds in the graphic novel. It is very opaque. It’s kind of hard to understand it. You get it in glimpses. You can tell there’s a much larger world behind what he’s telling you in the graphic novel that you can only guess at.” He explained, “You have to get much more specific about the narrative, so we had a great, great fun, sort of diving in and using his incredible artwork as inspiration to figure out what kind of story we can tell this world.”

The film’s setting is also a unique one, where it is technically a period piece in an alternate reality. Joe Russo said, “Imagine a 1990s where, in the late ’50s, Disney animatronics became sentient and then started demanding equal rights. That’s what, that’s where the war comes out. It cherry picks the ’90s in a way that supports that storytelling and supports the theme of the movie.” And Pratt added, “It’s a ‘90s that is reflective of our modern world.”

Our own Dave Arroyo got to attend this panel, so check out his pictures below!

Cobra Kai, Season 6, Part 2, Netflix, images

The end of an era approaches as Netflix‘s Cobra Kai series prepares to take its final bow. To get fans ready for the show’s staggered Finale, the streamer unleashed a gallery of first-look images featuring the students of Miyagi-Do, Cobra Kai, and others awaiting the results of a contest determining who gains control of the Valley and more.

According to Netflix, Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2 “brings us to the Sekai Taikai, where Miyagi-Do will face new challenges and old enemies as they fight to become world champions — can they stay united as internal rivalries bubble back to the surface?”

Speaking about the conclusion of the show’s final season, Hayden Schlossberg, who co-created Cobra Kai with Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz, tells Netflix’s Tudum that… “the first thing that you’re going to notice is we’re not in the Valley anymore. It’s a totally different environment. The competitive space is different from previous All Valley tournaments. There’s no crowd watching. Anthony and Joe Russo, the Russo Brothers, have directed some of the biggest movies of all time, with their film Avengers: Endgame coming in second place just behind James Cameron’s Avatar – and today, a teaser trailer for the new movie, the sci-fi adventure The Electric State, has dropped online! This teaser, which reveals that the movie is set to begin streaming on Netflix on March 14th, can be viewed in the embed above.

The story of this film begins in July of 2017, when Free League launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a new narrative artbook from acclaimed artist and author Simon Stålenhag – a book called The Electric State, which had the following description: In late 1997, a runaway teenager and her yellow toy robot travel west through a strange USA, where the ruins of gigantic battle drones litter the countryside heaped together with the discarded trash of a high tech consumerist society in decline. As their car approaches the edge of the continent, the world outside the window seems to be unraveling ever faster as if somewhere beyond the horizon, the hollow core of civilization has finally caved in.

The Russos teamed with screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who worked with the brothers on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and The Gray Man, to turn Stålenhag’s story into a film that has the following synopsis: The Electric State is a spectacular adventure from the directors of Avengers: Endgame set in an alternate, retro-futuristic version of the 1990s. Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) stars as Michelle, an orphaned teenager navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots, who once served peacefully among humans, now live in exile following a failed uprising. Everything Michelle thinks she knows about the world is upended one night when she’s visited by Cosmo, a sweet, mysterious robot who appears to be controlled by Christopher — Michelle’s genius younger brother whom she thought was dead. Determined to find the beloved sibling she thought she had lost, Michelle sets out across the American southwest with Cosmo, and soon finds herself reluctantly joining forces with Keats (Chris Pratt, Guardians of the Galaxy), a low-rent smuggler, and his wisecracking robot sidekick, Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie). As they venture into the Exclusion Zone, a walled-off corner in the desert where robots now exist on their own, Keats and Michelle find a strange, colorful group of new animatronic allies — and begin to learn that the forces behind Christopher’s disappearance are more sinister than they ever expected.

Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, and Anthony Mackie are joined in the cast by Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Ke Huy Quan (The Goonies), Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade), Woody Harrelson (Zombieland),  Stanley Tucci (The Devil Wears Prada), Brian Cox (X-Men 2), Martin Klebba (the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise), Woody Norman (C’mon C’mon), Jenny Slate (It Ends with Us), and Jason Alexander (Seinfeld).

The Russos produced the movie with Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Castaldi, and Patrick Newall. Markus, McFeely, and Stålenhag executive produce alongside Tim Connors, Nick van Dyk, Jake Aust, Geoffrey Haley, Jeffrey Ford, Julia Angelin, Russell Ackerman, John Schoenfelder, Anthony Muschietti, and Barbara Muschietti. Anthony J. Vorhies, Joseph Micucci, and Murtaza Kathawala are co-producers.

Aardman is determined to show fans that there is no clay shortage. The renowned animation studio had recently brought a sequel to Chicken Run to Netflix and now the streamer has released the trailer for their new film, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. Four-time Academy Award-winning director Nick Park and Emmy Award-nominated Merlin Crossingham return with this new tale of revenge. The film is written by scribe Mark Burton and is produced by Richard Beek. The executive producers on board include Nick Park, Mark Burton, Sarah Cox,  Peter Lord and Carla Shelley.

The official synopsis reads,
“Aardman’s four-time Academy Award®-winning director Nick Park and Emmy Award-nominated Merlin Crossingham return with a brand new epic adventure, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. In this next installment, Gromit’s concern that Wallace is becoming too dependent on his inventions proves justified, when Wallace invents a “smart” gnome that seems to develop a mind of its own. When it emerges that a vengeful figure from the past might be masterminding things, it falls to Gromit to battle sinister forces and save his master… or Wallace may never be able to invent again!”

Nick Park tells Netflix, “Returning to Wallace and Gromit is like meeting up with family friends. People respond to them because they feel so familiar. They’re like an old married couple in some ways, who know each other so well –– it’s a sort of love-hate relationship, but when the chips are down, they are always there for each other. Wallace pushes Gromit’s loyalty to the extreme, and Gromit always wants Wallace to change. It’s something everyone can relate to.”

Crossingham added, “One of our most asked questions is ‘When will Feathers come back?’ Well now is the time, and he’s back with a vengeance.” The directors also said, “We are delighted to introduce Norbot, a ‘nifty odd-jobbing robot’ gnome, designed to help Gromit with his gardening chores. Norbot is Wallace’s most proud achievement to date and, according to Wallace, his ‘best invention ever’! Garden gnomes have long been a part of Wallace and Gromit’s world, but this is no cute patio ornament. Norbot is the ultimate gnome — a ‘smart-gnome.’ We’re so excited to see Wallace unleashing his latest invention, Norbot, into the world. However, his long-suffering pooch, Gromit, may be a little less sure …”

Taron Egerton is a TSA agent who must let a mysterious package pass through in the trailer for Carry-On https://www.joblo.com/carry-on-trailer/ https://www.joblo.com/carry-on-trailer/#respond Wed, 16 Oct 2024 15:04:19 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=802561 Netflix and Amblin start their collaboration with the new thriller from Jaume Collet-Serra which releases this Christmas.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Except for one particular TSA agent. Netflix has just released the trailer for Carry-On. Carry-On is an upcoming feature film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle CruiseBlack Adam) and starring Taron Egerton (RocketmanKingsman: The Golden Circle)TJ Fixman wrote the script’s first draft, with Michael Green responsible for the most recent polish. Dylan Clark (The Batman) is producing. Carry-On is the first production of the overall deal between Netflix and Amblin.

The film also stars Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, Logan Marshall-Green, Dean Norris, Sinqua Walls and Jason Bateman. The cast will also include Gil Perez- Abraham, Tonatiuh, Curtiss Cook, Joe Williamson and Josh Brener. The plot logline reads, “A young TSA agent fights to outsmart a mysterious traveler who blackmails him into letting a dangerous package slip onto a Christmas Eve flight.” Collet-Serra is no stranger to a suspense-filled thriller in the airline setting as the director had also helmed the Liam Neeson airplane actioner Non-Stop.

The executive producers on the project include Holly Bario, Brian Williams, Jaume Collet-Serra, Seth William Meier and Scott Greenberg.

Egerton describes his character, “He’s pretty noble and selfless. He has all the qualities of an archetypal hero underneath the lack of direction.” He expounds, “He’s unhappy at work at the airport and feeling flat and dejected about it. He’s also just found out his girlfriend is pregnant. So, he feels pressure to be a responsible father and provider, but I think he also feels a deep lack of fulfillment. So when he’s put in this terrible situation, he has a huge occasion to rise to.”

Collet-Serra adds, “Ethan is a relatively ordinary person thrust into an extraordinary situation, and how he adapts and grows to save his loved ones over the course of the film ends up making him pretty extraordinary, even though what he discovers is that being extraordinary is actually just being himself.”

Carry-On starts boarding on Netflix on December 13. What did you think of the trailer? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
